Episode Summary:

Episode 1: "What Just Happened?"

• Reward/Immunity Challenge: The tribes would push four blocks along a track which would form a set of stairs to the first level of a temple. The tribe would race to the first level where one tribe member would cut a series of ropes which would release a second set of stairs to the top level of the temple. The tribe would then race to the top level of the temple where there would be a block puzzle. The first tribe to complete their puzzle would win.
• Reward: Flint

After being flown in on a helicopter by the Nicaraguan Air Force, the 16 new contestants started playing the game as soon as they got to their tribe mats, and they were all sizing each other up. Right away, Zapatera thought they were physically stronger, and were eager to win. On Ometepe's mat, Francesca immediately had a bad feeling about Natalie, and Andrea had a bad feeling about Phillip. After Jeff welcomed them to Nicaragua, he announced that there would be two additional contestants this season, and another helicopter flew in, which Boston Rob and Russell Hantz stepped off of. Everyone was shocked and somewhat thrilled they'd be competing again, but everyone was blindsided. Francesca didn't even know what had just happened. Russell and Rob then drew buffs to see what tribe they'd be on. Russell ended up on Zapatera, while Rob ended up on Ometepe. Ometepe erupted with applause, but Zapatera wasn't too thrilled to have Russell on their tribe. This made Russell angry with his tribe. Jeff then announced that after being voted off, you wouldn't go home, and told the contestants about Redemption Island. This shocked everyone, even Rob and Russell. Jeff then gave the tribes their maps, and sent them off. At Ometepe, Rob led the tribe and started building a shelter. Everyone was thrilled to have Rob helping out, and knew he would be an asset to their tribe. Phillip also stepped up as a leader, and was starting to challenge Rob for dominance. After building the shelter, Rob could tell he was already being targeted, and he wasn't surprised. He knew he needed to make an alliance fast. Meanwhile, Andrea, Ashley, and Natalie all quickly bonded, leaving Kristina and Francesca feeling on the outs. Kristina and Francesca decided to make their own alliance. Like Phillip, they also wanted Rob gone, so they decided to approach Phillip to make an alliance with them, and he agreed. They knew they would need two more members. They asked Matt to join them, and he agreed, so all they needed now was one member. Rob decided to make an alliance with Natalie, Ashley, and Andrea. They happily agreed, and Grant became the deciding vote. Both alliances asked him if he wanted to join, but he told them he didn't want to worry about alliances and strategy unless they had to go to tribal council. At Zapatera, Russell made an alliance with David, Krista, Ralph, and Stephanie, and immediately gained the numbers. The other four, Julie, Steve, Sarita, and Mike, were all intimidated by Russell, and worried he would vote them off. Ralph also felt that way, and didn't like being in his alliance, but he thought it would help him get further in the game. At the reward/immunity challenge, Zapatera and Ometepe were neck and neck. When it got to cutting the ropes, Phillip slowed Ometepe down a little bit, and Zapatera, thanks to Ralph, got a slight lead. On the puzzle, Rob tried to lead Ometepe ahead, but Phillip challenged his directions and was trying to lead the tribe instead of Rob. This made Ometepe become too disorganized, and allowed Zapatera to win the challenge. Back at Ometepe, Grant realized he now had to decide which side to vote with. He thought Rob was the biggest threat, but that they needed him more than they needed Kristina, Francesca, or Phillip. Phillip started to annoy the camp about work ethic, which effectively made Grant's mind up, and he decided to join Rob's alliance. At tribal council, Phillip once again challenged Rob. For the vote, Rob, Andrea, Ashley, Natalie, and Grant voted for Phillip, while Phillip, Kristina, Francesca, and Matt voted for Rob. Phillip became the first person voted off in a 5-4 vote, and the first person to be sent to Redemption Island.

Episode 2: "They Made Us Look Like Fools!"

• Reward/Immunity Challenge: One at a time, a castaway would swim across a pool, climb up a tower, and then jump off the tower to smash a tile. The smashed tile would release a key which the castaway would retrieve. Once five keys were retrieved, one castaway would use the keys to unlock a box that contained a ball. Two castaways would then toss the ball to break five tiles. The first tribe to break all five tiles would win.
• Reward: Fishing gear

On Redemption Island, Phillip was angry he was voted out, but he felt confident that he'd be able to win his way back into the game. At Ometepe, Francesca, Kristina, and Matt were still reeling from tribal council. Francesca said that the other alliance had made them look like fools. The three of them knew the numbers were against them, but weren't going to give up just yet. They just needed one more person to vote with them, and they'd be able to force a tie. At Zapatera, Russell continued to burn bridges with the four people not in his alliance, as well as Ralph. Ralph was getting more and more sick with Russell's attitude, and began to seriously consider leaving Russell's alliance. After Ralph, Julie was the most angry with Russell. She was constantly irritated by him, and wanted to take him down. She decided to stir hatred toward Russell. She took the machete from the camp and hid it in the jungle, far away from their shelter. She pretended to not be able to find it, and everyone started to believe Russell had hidden it. Ralph, Mike, and Steve confronted Russell about it, and he said that he was done playing the game of sabotage, and doing so would put an enormous target on his back, but they still didn't believe him. Russell was furious about what happened. He told his alliance that the others were playing mind games with them, and he swore he didn't hide it. Although they believed him, there was still mistrust in the air. At the reward/immunity challenge, which Russell sat out for Zapatera, Grant gave Ometepe an enormous lead, but Julie and Mike were able to catch up to them. In the final part, Ralph and Francesca were tied throwing the ball, and Francesca was just barely able to win for Ometepe. Back at Ometepe, while unloading the reward, Natalie found a clue to the Hidden Immunity Idol. She decided not to share it with anybody quite yet, and started to look for it. After a while, she found it, which made her ecstatic. At Zapatera, Sarita stumbled upon the machete in the jungle, and happily brought it back to camp, which shocked everybody, especially Russell and Julie. Russell got into a big argument with Sarita, saying she found it too easily, and must have known where it was. Russell was furious with her, saying she framed him for stealing it. Russell talked to his alliance, and told them they had to vote for Sarita. He said she was the weakest link and, still thinking she framed him, wanted to pay her back. Everyone in his alliance agreed to vote for Sarita, but Ralph still didn't know if he should go with Russell. He talked to David about it, and David agreed not to tell Russell what he had heard, but told Ralph that although he didn't like Russell, siding with Russell would be beneficial in the long run. He said that Russell's alliances always go far, and that all the people they voted out would blame and be angry toward Russell, and not them. Ralph said he would wait until tribal council to decide who to vote for. At tribal council. Sarita and Russell got into another argument, and Sarita continued to deny stealing the machete, which made her very upset and emotional. For the vote, David, Krista, Russell, Stephanie, and Ralph voted for Sarita, while Julie, Sarita, Mike, and Steve voted for Russell. Sarita became the second person voted off in a 5-4 vote, and the second person sent to Redemption Island.
