SURVIVOR ETHICS QUIZ

Do the ends justify the means in Survivor? Is it just a game where all is fair, or is there an ethical line you would not cross in order to win the million dollars? Would you insist on playing the game with 100% honesty, or is a certain amount of deceit acceptable to you? Take the following quiz to measure your tolerance level for dishonesty, disloyalty, and betrayal in the game of Survivor. Read the following Survivor scenarios and grade yourself as to how far you would go to win the game. For each scenario, score the behavior from 1 to 10. Do NOT grade the behavior on whether you consider it a winning strategy or not, but rather how comfortable you would be to resort to this behavior.

Scoring System
5 = Perfectly ethically acceptable. I would have no qualms doing this.
1 = Totally ethically unacceptable. I would rather lose the game than stoop to this.

Survivor Scenario Circle One
1 You are the owner of a multi-million dollar company, and you are wealthy. Before the game begins you decide not to tell anyone what you really do for a living, for fear that if you make it to the Final 3, the jury might not give you the money, since you don’t need it. 1 2 3 4 5
2 You and several other players have agreed to vote off John at the next tribal council. John approaches you and asks who you are voting for. You tell him you haven’t decided yet. 1 2 3 4 5
3 The tribes have been switched pre-merge and you have some new members to deal with. Jack is now on your team, and he is a physical threat. You go to one of your alliance members and agree to slow-play the next immunity challenge in the hopes you will lose, so you can vote off Jack. 1 2 3 4 5
4 You pretend to be friends with another player just so you can gain their trust and get information from them to use against them. 1 2 3 4 5
5 You have been experiencing a low-grade fever and a sharp tooth ache, but you decide not to tell your tribe mates for fear they might vote you off. 1 2 3 4 5
6 At the start of the game you form an alliance with a player with the promise that you will never write her name down to vote her off. At the end of the game you have both reached the Final 4 and you see that she has become very popular. You decide to break your promise, to prevent her from going to the Final 3, because the jury would probably vote for her rather than you. 1 2 3 4 5
7 You are an athletic person, so you decide to perform poorly in the challenges so you will not be targeted as a physical threat. 1 2 3 4 5
8 You find a hidden immunity idol and decide to tell no one you have it. If they ask you if you have it, you will lie and say NO. 1 2 3 4 5
9 You solemnly promise to another player that if he will give you his immunity idol, you will not vote him off. He gives you the idol as a trusting gesture, and you vote him off anyway. 1 2 3 4 5
10 You have become genuine friends with Susan since the beginning of the game, but you made no promises to each other. Nevertheless, you feel a desire to look out for her. At the next tribal council the tribe has decided to vote off Susan and tells you to say nothing to her. You agree, to appear cooperative, but secretly warn Susan as a favor. 1 2 3 4 5
11 In the middle of the night you sneak over to the opposing tribe’s camp and steal all their food. 1 2 3 4 5
12 You lie to Justin that Julie doesn’t trust him and wants to vote him off. As a result, Justin arranges for Julie to be voted off. 1 2 3 4 5
13 You make alliance promises to everyone on your tribe, which you know you will never be able to keep, just to cover your bases. 1 2 3 4 5

15 You have fallen in love with one of the players and he/she has fallen for you. It’s for real. But when the two of you reach the Final 4, you vote him/her off to insure your victory. 1 2 3 4 5
16 You are starving, and the provisions at camp are low. When no one is looking, you steal extra food to eat. 1 2 3 4 5
